BOOK COVER DESIGN
I respond promptly to clients and begin their projects quickly whever possible. I use graphic design software preferred by most printers to create your book cover. I communicate with your printer to make sure your book cover is delivered in conformity with their guidelines using all the specs that they provide. I am available to your printer after the files are submitted to deal with any technical problems should they arise.
Comps can be provided to you in the form of color ink jet printouts and/or by PDF files. Images to be used for the cover design may be researched and provided by the client, the publisher, or myself. Book cover design includes the cover, spine and back, and inside flaps for hardcover books. I have an extensive collection of fonts and have all the best image resources with which to find the ideal image for your cover.
I offer competitive rates on book cover design, considering the quality of work and attention to detail you will get. Often, a cover can be created without an image or you may already have an image that you want to use or a suitable free image may be available, in which case you pay only the flat design fee of $800 for a perfect bound (soft cover) or $900 for a dust jacket. Some book covers may require the purchase of an image, which will raise the total price to include the cost of the image. Image costs may range from $75 to $300 or more depending upon the image.
To get started on your book cover design you will need to have your book interior either in the process of being formatted or already formatted (designed) by myself or someone else. The total page count of your finished book interior will determine the spine width of the book cover. Therefore the interior ultimately must be finished with its formatting before the cover can be completed. But we can get started on the cover while the interior is in process. You will need to decide with your printer which book type (perfect bound or hardbound) and book size you want. You will also need to have your finalized title and subtitle or any other text that will go on the cover. I will need a number of things later for the book back, including your ISBN number. You should ideally select a printer before beginning on your book cover project. I can suggest some printers if necessary.
BOOK INTERIORS
I respond promptly to clients and begin their projects quickly whenever possible. I use graphic design software preferred by most printers to create your book interior. Having the same person design both your book cover and your book interior will create a more professional and harmonious package. The inside of a book should be as appealing as the cover. If I have created your book cover (or if someone else has), I will try to develop a consistent look between the interior and the cover so that they reflect the same design style.
I offer competitive rates on book interiors considering the quality of work and attention to detail you will get. I charge by the finished page. The range is generally between $5 and $10 per finished page, depending upon the complexity of the manuscript. There is also a $125 design set up fee. For an estimate I need to see your completed manuscript to give you a per finished page price. Your manuscript can be emailed to me as an MS Word attachment. The price per finished page will be fixed but since we will not know the final number of pages of the formatted book interior, we will have to estimate the final cost of the book interior.
To get started on your book interior formatting and design you will need to have your manuscript completely finished and edited. You may submit your manuscript in MS word or some similar word processing program via email. Your manuscript should clearly show chapters and sub heads, etc., and it should contain all matter for the book both front and back. You should select a printer before beginning on your book interior formatting. I can suggest some printers if necessary.
